Minister launches Brunei December Festival (2020)

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong officiated the launch of the fourth Brunei December Festival (BDF) on Thursday at Times Square Shopping Centre.

Members of the Legislative Council, foreign dignitaries, members of the Brunei Tourism Board, district officers, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, senior government officials, partners and event organisers of BDF 2020 were also present.

Giving AI research a boost (2020)

Shell Deepwater Borneo Ltd and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) for ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI): Gift to the Nation’ initiative in line with their digitalisation and technological evolution journey.

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman witnessed the signing between UTB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Shell Country Chair and BSP Managing Director Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, and Managing Director of Shell Deepwater Borneo Ltd Dr Ivo Verstralen.

JKR announces road closures (2020)

The Public Works Department (JKR) under the Ministry of Development announced the temporary road closure along Jalan Utama Mentiri. The two-phase road closure starts tonight at 10pm until 6am, to give way to beam launching works for a flyover project connecting Jalan Utama Mentiri and Tanah Jambu.

The first phase of the closure will involve part of Jalan Utama Mentiri heading to Mentiri, while the second phase will affect Jalan Utama Mentiri heading to Bandar Seri Begawan. The road will open for public access as soon as the works are completed.

COVID-19 Brunei: COVID-19 patient discharged, two active cases remain (as of 03.12.2020)

One of the three active COVID-19 cases at the National Isolation Centre in Tutong District has recovered and discharged as of on Thursday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 146. The remaining two cases are still receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam on Thursday recorded 211 days without local COVID-19 transmissions, and three days without fresh cases, keeping the national tally of confirmed cases at 151.
