In The Courts (2019): Serial car thieves in jail for burglary

Two local men involved in a series of car thefts were convicted of retail burglary on Tuesday, in the Magistrate’s Court.

Asrimi @ Azmi bin Damit, 44, was sentenced to three years and four months of imprisonment, while Muhammad Azemi bin Hassim, 34, was ordered to serve two years and six months in prison.

Brunei, S’pore ink deal to farm Atlantic Salmon (2019)


The Strategic Development Capital Fund under the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 8F Asset Management Pte Ltd from Singapore to invest in salmon farming facility in Brunei. Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah was guest of honour at the signing ceremony at The Empire Brunei.

Atlantic Salmon will be locally produced in a clean and fresh environment in Brunei Darussalam, via a state-of-the-art land-based aquaculture facility, which is the first and largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.

The State General Reserve Fund (SGRF) of the Sultanate of Oman and Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) have agreed to increase the capital of Oman Brunei Investment Company (OBIC) by another USD100 million, bringing the total capital of the company to USD 200 million.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 19th Bilateral Consultative Meeting (BCM) between the ministries of foreign affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and Brunei Darussalam, in Muscat on December 9.

Around 28 participants from Indonesia are in the country to attend the Educational Partnership Workshop between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia at SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Brunei from December 10-13.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia, aimed to get an insight of Brunei’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

In The Courts (2019): Jail, caning for paedophile

A man was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment and five strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after he was found guilty of sexual exploitation and outraging the modesty of three boys under the age of 16.

Dayemo @ Abdul Aziz bin Haji Moktal had pleaded not guilty to committing the offences, which resulted in a hearing.

The prosecution, conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharon Yeo, called in seven witnesses to prove the case.
