Border re-opening tied to vaccine availability (2020)

The re-opening of Brunei’s borders will depend on the take-up of the COVID-19 vaccine and the pandemic situation both regionally and internationally, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the minister said, “Our assumption is that the vaccine may be available in the Sultanate in June. But in reality, we don’t know when.

MoE launches first ever TVET report (2020)

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 2019 Report in commemoration of 50 years of the establishment of TVET in Brunei was launched on Tuesday, giving policymakers and stakeholders access to information necessary to improve TVET and align it with job market.

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman launched the report in a ceremony at the School of Aviation, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus in Berakas.

In The Courts (2020): Immigration officer faces bribery charges (01.12.2020)

An immigration officer was charged with two counts of corruption in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Mohammad Shukran bin Haji Jaidin, 49, Chief Immigration Officer at the Entry Permit Section of the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), is accused of attempting to obtain a BND1,500 bribe from a 56-year-old permanent resident on March 17.

Contraband Bust (2020): Two smuggling attempts foiled (01.12.2020)

Personnel from the Bangar Police Station recently foiled two smuggling attempts in the Temburong District, which resulted in the seizure of contraband items and drug paraphernalia.

Acting Commanding Officer of the Temburong Police District DSP Pengiran Saifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yussof said that two suspicious vehicles were observed at 9pm on November 30, by a patrol team assigned along Jalan Bangar to Jalan Labu.

Art therapy at paediatric ward (2020)

After four months of dedicated works by volunteers, a new mural art project for the paediatric ward at the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital in Tutong District was finally unveiled on Tuesday.

The project was organised by La Vida Bhd involving 45 volunteers to create a positive and vibrant environment for the young patients.
