In The Courts (2019): Armed robber gets seven years, 12 strokes

The Intermediate Court on Tuesday sentenced a local man to seven years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane, after he pleaded guilty to committing armed robbery.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah bin Haji Ahmad Ghazali’s facts of the case stated that Abdul Rashid bin Simat, 27, was armed with a knife when he entered the female prayer room at a building in Jalan Batu Satu at 6.50pm, on November 17.

In The Courts (2019): Nose hair plucker acquitted

The Intermediate Court on Tuesday acquitted a local man of abusing a person under the age of 18, seeing that the victim was willing to compound the case.

Haji Mohd Yusrin bin Haji Halimi, 38, was charged under Section 3232 of the Penal Code with committing the assaults by pinching the victim’s body parts and by repeatedly plucking his nose hair using a pair of pliers, sometime between January and November 2016.

Kiulap car vandal ruled fit to stand trial (09.12.2019)

The case of a local man, detained by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in connection with vandalising five vehicles in the Kiulap commercial area, was recently brought again before the Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim ruled, referring to the Mental Health Unit report, that Muhammad Izzat bin Haji Said, 34, was fit to stand trial and was of sound mind at the time of the alleged commission of offences.

Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd has successfully delivered a total of 267 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), since it began operations 50 years ago in 1969.

Today, 90 per cent of the volume produced by Brunei LNG has been delivered to Japan, which remains Brunei’s largest client.

Culinary students win French cooking contest (2019)

A pair of culinary students from Laksamana College of Business was crowned champion of the first-ever French Gourmet Cooking Contest at Mabohai Shopping Complex recently.

Noorhuda Samaan and Daniel Easter were against eight other teams of amateur chefs and culinary students from Brunei as well as Sabah.
