PREPARATIONS are underway in celebration of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB)as the Islamic Culture Capital for the Asia Region in 2019, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin said.

Vietnamese detained for suspected prostitution

THE Gambling Suppression and Anti-Vice Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) on Friday detained a Vietnamese national suspected to be offering sexual services, during a raid of a hotel room in the Berakas area.

Items including condoms and cash were collected as evidence.

Arsonist loses appeal over prison sentence

THE Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal made by a 57-year-old man against his sentence of six years in prison for arson in a commercial building.

Court of Appeal President Justice Michael Peter Burrell, sitting with Justices Conrad Seagroatt and Michael Lunn, considered Haji Ahmad bin Haji Tamin’s case to have no merit at all and superseded by the aggravating factors.

Court of Appeal reduces sentence in housebreaking case

THE Court of Appeal reduced the jail term and caning sentence for a housebreaking offender, citing the Intermediate Court’s error in considering the total sentence.

Johari bin Haji Jaya was sentenced to a total of 114 months and four strokes of the cane for a number of offences involving house trespassing, theft from a dwelling and housebreaking by night.
