In The Courts (2020): Man from Selangor arrested for supplying drugs in Miri, Brunei

A 35-year-old man suspected of supplying drugs in Miri and Brunei Darussalam were arrested in a police ambush on a house in Pujut in Miri on Monday, Malaysian media reported.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Lim Meng Seah told a press conference that the arrest of the suspect also led to the seizure of drugs worth RM89,560. “The drugs were meant for distribution here and Brunei, and the suspect is the sole individual involved in the activity.

In The Courts (2020): Stealing from mother - Woman’s sentence increased

The High Court on Tuesday substituted a woman’s jail sentence of two years and eight months to three years and four months, after allowing the Public Prosecutor’s appeal.

Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong agreed with the Public Prosecutor that the sentence handed by the Magistrate’s Court to Nur Sabihah binti Haji Zulfikri for 15 counts of theft and nine counts of money laundering was “unduly lenient”.

COVID-19 Brunei: Brunei continues zero-case streak (as of 30.06.2020)

Brunei Darussalam continued its streak of no new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday keeping the tally of confirmed cases in the country at 141.

Four hundred and seven individuals who recently arrived in the country after travelling abroad are undergoing mandatory isolation at government monitoring centres.

COVID-19 Brunei: BruHealth yellow code holders allowed to join Friday prayers (2020)

BruHealth users with yellow codes will be able to attend the Friday prayers once more, starting July 3.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar announced this at the daily press conference on Monday.

COVID-19 Brunei: Public advised against using bacteria disinfectant tunnels (2020)

The Ministry of Health (MoH) recently issued an advisory on the harmful effects of bacteria disinfectant tunnels and other similar devices, following a health alert from the ECRI and the World Health Organization (WHO).

In its statement, the ministry said, “Members of the public, particularly business premises, should not use bacteria disinfectant tunnels, disinfectant chambers, disinfectant cabinets or any other modality involving the spraying of disinfectants on people who are not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).”
