Security guard jailed for stealing from mosque

THE Intermediate Court sentenced a mosque’s security personnel to 20 months’ imprisonment with two whippings after he pleaded guilty to stealing from donation boxes he was looking after.

Sahimin bin Hussin, 39, was employed as an assistant security guard by the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kiarong.

Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Haji Kefli heard from the prosecution that the defendant committed the offences during his shifts from 11pm to 7am on February 15, and from 11pm to 7am the next day.

He stole cash from the donation boxes using a ruler wrapped with double-sided tape, and used it to buy drugs.

CCTV footage showed the defendant in action and he was caught red-handed by mosque officers in charge of collecting money from the donation boxes and the Imam of the mosque. He was arrested on February 19.

DPP Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Ibrahim prosecuted the case.
