LEGISLATIVE Council (LegCo) member YB Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin Monday proposed for vehicle inspections to be carried out in border control posts in the country to ensure that foreign vehicles coming into the country meet with the road and traffic safety regulations here.
Forwarding the suggestion to the Minister of Communications, YB Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, at the ongoing 14th LegCo session Monday, YB Haji Abdul Hamid said that apart from conducting road block operations to root out illegally modified cars and traffic offenders in the country, the Land Transport Department (JPD) should also have checkpoints at the border control posts to ensure the safety of all drivers.
Responding to the proposal, YB Awang Abdul Mutalib said that the idea is in line with the Ministry of Communications’ agenda and will be forwarded to the Brunei National Road Safety Council.
“Among the cause of road accidents here are driving under the influence and the focus here is to identify the strategic points where we can carry out the enforcement operations like the one suggested.. because the suggestion is in line with our agenda to combat road accidents, we will evaluate the suggestion and, Insya Allah, it will be implemented in the near future,” the minister further added.
