BANDAR Seri Begawan (BSB) will host various activities and events throughout 2019 as part of its role as the Capital of Islamic Culture in the Asian region.
This was explained by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MYCS) and Chairperson of the ‘Bandar Seri Begawan – Capital of Islamic Culture in the Asian Region’ Working Committee Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil during a press conference at the ministry building on Wednesday.
“Bandar Seri Begawan is one of the three cities in Africa, Asia and the Middle East chosen every year as capitals of Islamic culture by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) as part of the efforts to enrich the Islamic culture of their regions,” she said.
“This year, Jerusalem, Bandar Seri Begawan and Guinea-Bissau’s capital of Bissau have been recognised for their historical significance in the areas of culture, art, social sciences and architecture.” Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila also expressed hope that “with this declaration, our country will achieve meaningful returns whether in tangible aspects, including the field of tourism, as well as intangible, namely in the enhancement of religious values and cultures that are in line with the philosophy of the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB)”.
A launching ceremony will be held today at the Arrival Hall of the Brunei International Airport, for the exhibition on the Bandar Seri Begawan Architectural and Monuments Trail, by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.
The exhibition will showcase Islamic architectural and monuments in Bandar Seri Begawan, alongside presentations of calligraphy and an MIB display, throughout the month.
Other activities will also be held, including the 2nd International Islamic Expo, and the Photography and Painting Exhibition on Al-Quds Al-Sharif. An event calendar will be uploaded soon on the official website of the MCYS.
