Thirty bags of litter collected in Tasek Merimbun clean-up (2019)

THIRTY bags of litter were collected in a cleaning campaign organised at Tasek Merimbun and its vicinity by Green Brunei and the Kampong Merimbun Village Consultative Council (MPK) on Sunday.

It was conducted to increase awareness of Tasek Merimbun in the Tutong District as an ASEAN Heritage Park site and preserve its beauty.

Over 43 volunteers including residents from the area took part in the campaign that saw litter collected in 30 trash bags.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari who is also the Co-founder of Green Brunei and Acting Village Head of Kampong Merimbun Sani bin Nangkat also took part.

The campaign also saw the involvement of volunteers from Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Vfast Brunei with support from the Tutong District Office, Museums Department as well as Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation.

Green Brunei said that apart from increasing awareness of the potential and importance of Tasek Merimbun, its objective was also to help attract more visitors to the lake while instilling the importance of maintaining cleanliness of the lake’s environment in the public. Residents hoped to see similar activity carried out annually.
