BY Danial Norjidi

THE Department of Competition and Consumer Affairs of the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Ministry of Finance and Economy is calling upon businesses in the Sultanate to participate in Jualan Aneka Brunei 2019, which will start a week before Ramadhan for 56 days (April 29-June 23).

According to a press statement, businesses are encouraged to participate in the national sales event by notifying JPKE starting today.

The annual sales event aims to stimulate domestic consumption to boost local business performance, which is an important contributor towards a more vibrant economic environment for a sustainable economic growth in the country.

To encourage more retailers from different categories to join the sales event, JPKE has removed the minimum requirement to participate. Retailers will therefore be given the flexibility to offer attractive discount percentage on the goods in store to be on sale.

Participating businesses are encouraged to offer attractive and creative deals to draw more shoppers and build customer loyalty. Participating businesses will be featured in the ‘PenggunaBijak’ mobile app to gain more publicity.

JPKE reminded participants to conduct their business and sales activities in an ethical manner in compliance with the Consumer Protection (Fair Trade) Order 2011, to maintain consumer confidence and building business credibility.

It was highlighted that goods offered on sale in stores must be clearly price-tagged in line with the Display of Prices Regulations, which ensures price transparency to enable consumers to make informed purchase decisions.

To participate, the process has been streamlined by submitting a notification form to the Department of Competition and Consumer Affairs together with their price list.

The notification form can be downloaded at from JPKE’s website at www.depd.gov.bn/cad, and submission can be done by email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
