FRESH from winning the Special Jury Award at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards in Kuching, Sarawak for Hari Minggu Yang Ke-Empat, local film director, Siti Kamaluddin was invited to Beijing for the Asian Film Week from May 14–19.
As part of the Asian Film Week, China is hosting a Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilisations. The event is expected to welcome over 2,000 delegates from 47 Asian countries. The conference aims to discuss exchanges and mutual learning among Asian civilisations as a community with a shared future.
President Xi Jinping will deliver the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilisations at the National Convention Centre today.
The event aims to boost international exchanges and development following the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to the local director, the film is a crossroad of art, culture, technology and business. It tells a story about the filmmaker’s culture and art as well as spur innovation and economic growth.
“In most parts of the world, film is an economy rather than merely an industry. My hope is that Brunei Darussalam will keep producing films with this goal in mind – to maximise the potential of the local film economy,” she added.
As a representative of the Brunei Film Industry, Siti’s films will be screened along with 60 other selected works from across Asia in key cultural hubs such as, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi’an.
