BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) is set to embark on new joint initiatives with the Youth Development Centre (PPB) following the signing of a letter of intent on Friday.
According to a press release, the agreement is a “smart partnership” between the two parties that is aimed at developing collaborative efforts for various initiatives, including the development of business management and upskilling courses for PPB students in the future.
BIBD’s Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah said the agreement would see the bank expand its list of strategic partners for the BIBD SEED (Special Underprivileged Mothers Empowerment Entrepreneurship Development) programme.
This move also reflects BIBD’s support towards promoting a whole-of-nation approach in implementing its initiatives and programmes.
“BIBD SEED is a programme that highly prioritises multi-agency cooperation,” said Haji Mohammad Yusri.
“We at BIBD truly believe that the involvement of policymakers such as the government, industry players such as BIBD as well as other businesses will only result in good outcome that ultimately fulfils the objective of this programme.”
He also thanked the parties involved including stakeholders from the Brunei Government in ensuring the success and sustainability of the programme.
To mark the signing, a ceremony was held at the PPB in Kampong Tanah Jambu, during which 17 participants of BIBD SEED Cohort 2 received certificates for successfully completing the first phase of the programme – the BIBD SEED bootcamp.
The certificates were presented to the participants by BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO Mubashar Khokhar.
For BIBD SEED Cohort 2, the number of participants was trimmed down to a total of 10 after further evaluation and selection processes – including two wildcard selections.
Eight participants who proceeded to the next phase were selected based on their overall performance during the BIBD SEED programme, while two wildcard participants were chosen based on the potential of their products and business ideas that can be further developed.
Guest of honour at the ceremony Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin handed over the Awards for BIBD SEED programme to the successful participants who will proceed to the next phase.
The current BIBD SEED cohort follows the inaugural batch which started in 2018 and graduated in early May.
The continuation of the BIBD SEED programme signifies BIBD’s commitment towards nation-building, not just as a financial institution, but also as a responsible organisation contributing towards the success of Brunei and its society.
This is in line with BIBD’s social enterprise role under its Corporate Social Responsibility Pillars of entrepreneurship, education and community, and is just one of its numerous ways to give back to the community, remaining true to its core focus of being Bruneian at Heart.
Representing the bank during the signing was Haji Mohammad Yusri while Head of PPB Fauziah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, signed the letter of intent on behalf of the centre.
Also present at the event were senior government officials and personnel as well as senior BIBD officials.
