TEAM Polybrusem of Politeknik Brunei (PB) made the country proud by finishing the recent Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2019 in Sepang Circuit, Malaysia with flying colours and winning the hearts of new age technology enthusiasts.
PB held an appreciation and certificate presentation ceremony for the Polybrusem team members and event sponsors to celebrate the achievement.
Director of PB Denis Ho Mun Tai presented the certificates. The PB Director applauded the students for their remarkable achievement and expressed his gratitude to the sponsors.
The Brunei contingents to Shell Eco-marathon Asia (SEMA) 2019 comprising students from PB joined over 100 teams from 18 countries across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, competed in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia which was held at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia from April 29 to May 2.
Shell Eco-marathon is a competition for students who are passionate about developing innovative mobility solution and challenges the student minds to design, bulid and drive the ultra-energy-efficient cars.

Two teams from PB with vehicles named ‘Yakin III’ and ‘Pengembara I’ competed in the Prototype and Urban Concept categories.
‘Yakin III’ team comprised seven students while ‘Pengembara I’ team comprised six students.
All team must first pass all the safety inspection and ready in order to be race on the track. The race consisted of eight attempts, where in each attempt the team must run their vehicle under 25 minutes and four laps. The race aimed to run the vehicle with the less amount of energy consumed per race.
On the final day, Yakin III from Politeknik Brunei successfully beat the national record by achieving fuel efficiency of 252km/kWh and being place eighth out of 22 teams participating in the region’s Prototype (Battery Electric) category – who passed all the safety and technical inspections. Previously in 2017, the efficiency reading by PB was 85km/kWh followed by 117km/kWh in 2018 and this year achieving 252km/kWh. With this result, it made PB the top performing team from Brunei Darussalam in terms of efficiency and ranking.
