The Intermediate Court is considering a fitting punishment for an Indonesian maid who pleaded guilty on Thursday to abusing her employer’s two-year-old baby boy.
Saniasa, 31, has been working as a maid at a household in Gadong since April 19, 2019.
DPP Pengiran Nor ‘Azmeena binti Pengiran Haji Mohiddin on Thursday revealed the turn of events before Judge Pengiran Hajah Norismayanti binti Pengiran Haji Ismail.
Saniasa also admitted to the facts of the case which was read out by an Indonesian interpreter, stating that she was taking care of the victim at 12.30pm on August 3, 2019.
The defendant was putting the victim to sleep in his bedroom when she started punching his right arm and slapping his face repeatedly, after which the infant began to cry.
The infant’s parent immediately lodged a police report after viewing CCTV footage of the incident.
The defendant was immediately arrested the same day and brought to the police station for investigations.
During investigations, the defendant admitted to her wrongdoing.
Saniasa, in mitigation on Thursday, pleaded to the court for leniency, citing that she has no family in Brunei and her family back home requires her financial support.
The defendant added in her mitigation that she has a child, old parents and a husband who is unemployed.
