THE Department of Agriculture and Agrifood at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) is currently holding a local fruits sale at the Tamuneka Tutong until tomorrow.
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong visited the stalls at the market.
Themed ‘Hasil Segar Ladang Kitani’ (Fresh Produce From Our Farms), the four-day sale is aimed at helping fruit farm operators to market their products, in addition to boosting the demand for local agricultural produce.
At the same time, the project serves as a preparatory and continuous step to provide organised market channels that will be a matching platform for farm operators, individual buyers, supermarkets, restaurants, processed food operators and so on.
The participants are made up of local fruit producers, as well as several processed food product entrepreneurs, who make use of local plantations as the base of their products.
It is also hoped that this effort will help local farmers and entrepreneurs to gain a secured marketing space, along with plenty of networking opportunities, in order to meet the target for the growth of the country’s fruit industry.
