Former police inspector to face trial next year in theft case (2019)

The Intermediate Court has fixed trial in the case of a former police inspector, who allegedly misappropriated BND18,300 in bail bond money while holding the position of Officer-in-Charge at the Sungai Liang Police Station, for next year.

Mohd Soffian bin Haji Kipli, 46, who hired lawyer Zainidi Abdul Hamid on Wednesday, allegedly committed the offences in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Each of the charges pressed against the defendant by Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Goh, carries a penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Intermediate Court Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Haji Kefli fixed the trial to run between June 29 to July 11, 2020, while extending the defendant’s bail release which has been set at BND10,000 or two local sureties, along with other strict conditions.
