THE Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) and Times Square Shopping Centre, will hold the Korean Festival 2019 from September 13-15 at Times Square Shopping Centre.
Bruneians will be introduced to the various attractions of Korea at the festival that will also provide them with opportunities to experience Korean traditional cultures and latest trends.
Aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship between Korea and Brunei, this annual event has been held annually since 2014 and received overwhelming interest and participation from Bruneians.
Opening ceremony of the festival on September 13 evening will be hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam Yoon Hyun-bong along with the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, who will be present as guest of honour.
This year’s Korean Festival will feature many demonstrations, performances and activities that introduce rich and colourful Korean culture as well as exciting and fun events on the special stage of the Times Square Shopping Centre’s Atrium.
The lineup of activities includes K-food cooking, Korean cultural performances, taekwondo demonstration, K-beauty styling, traditional games and quiz on Korea.
Additionally, there will be various exhibition stalls put up for visitors to experience Korean culture, tourism, food and products.
The highlight of the festival will be a cultural performance by Jin Myung at Jerudong International School (JIS) Art Centre on Saturday evening, September 14.
Jin Myung is a Korean percussion group composed of eight young male musicians who has been performing successfully around the world. Free tickets are available by request through the Korean Embassy.
As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Republic of Korea-ASEAN dialogue relations, the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit, which is to be attended by the heads of state and government from the ASEAN member states, will be held in November in Busan, Korea and this makes the Korean Festival 2019 even more special and meaningful in which we together celebrate the anniversary and wish for the success of the Commemorative Summit.
