The Magistrate’s Court on Saturday again adjourned the case involving a couple linked to the death of a 16-month-old toddler to September 28.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar adjourned the case on hearing Deputy Public Prosecutor Fitri binti Kiprawi’s applications.
The prosecution sought more time to assess evidence.
Mohammad Helmi bin Serabah, 39, is accused of murdering the child on August 26 afternoon at a house in Jalan Masjid Salambigar, RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan.
Meanwhile, Ampuan Roslinah binti Ampuan Abdul Rahman is accused of assaulting the child in the same house between August 19 and 24, causing her to sustain physical injuries.
The police launched investigations after being alerted by medics at 9.38pm on August 26.
Mohammad Helmi was arrested at 7.35pm on August 27 while Ampuan Roslinah was arrested at 10.30pm.
Mohammad Helmi faces the death penalty while Ampuan Roslinah was handed a fine of BND20,000 and 10 years’ imprisonment.
The court denied Mohammad Helmi’s request for bail as he faces the death penalty.
Ampuan Roslinah’s request for bail was also rejected due to the seriousness of the offence and risks of tampering evidence.
