The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Brunei Darussalam hosted a get-together on Friday for two Brunei students who have been granted scholarships by the Government of the Russian Federation.

Md ‘Aqilah bin Masri and Muhd Kamaruldin bin Haji Baharun Zaman were congratulated by Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam Vladimir Goncharenko, who also wished them good luck and success with their studies.

Md ‘Aqilah and Muhd Kamaruldin will begin their studies at a preparatory faculty, where they will learn the Russian language for one year.

Md ‘Aqilah will be studying Light Industry Product Design at Don State Technical University (DSTU), where his course involve sewing, cutting, leatherwork, clothing and shoes.

“I thank both the governments of Brunei Darussalam and the Russian Federation for giving me the opportunity to be part of the scholarship scheme,” he said.

Muhd Kamaruldin, who will be taking Technical Physics at Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU), told the Weekend Bulletin, “I feel that Russia is an unexplored option for studying abroad, so hopefully my journey there will attract more interest among Bruneians to continue their studies in Russia.”

The event was also attended by Magomed Saitov, who has been in Brunei since January. Together with five other students from Dagestan, Russia, Saitov is pursuing further studies at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), in accordance with the Memorandum on Cooperation between Dagestan Islamic Sheikh Muhammad Arif University and UNISSA, which was signed in April 2018.
