His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is scheduled to open this year’s Knowledge Convention on October 12, at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Hall (BPISHHB).
Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam is also expected to be present at the opening ceremony, together with other members of the royal family.
This was announced on Wednesday by Permanent Secretary (Welfare and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office Haji Mohammed Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim in a media briefing.
“Since 2004, the Knowledge Convention is one of the main events to commemorate His Majesty’s birthday,” he said.
“It is a benchmark of His Majesty’s intellectual leadership and serves as a valuable source of knowledge and information to the people.”
This year’s Knowledge Convention, held to mark His Majesty’s 73rd birthday celebration, is jointly organised by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
This year’s Knowledge Convention will focus on Brunei Darussalam’s achievements under the leadership of His Majesty, particularly in embracing Islamic values in all aspects of the country’s development agenda.
The Knowledge Convention will also coincide with the opening of the BPISHHB, which is an embodiment of His Majesty’s wish to preserve valuable Islamic knowledge and heritage, and encourage these through research and studies for the benefit of the community and people.
A number of key events will take place throughout the five-day Knowledge Convention, including a special talk presented by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
After the special talk, Their Majesties and other members of the royal family will tour the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Hall Galleries and the Knowledge Convention Expo 2019.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, meanwhile, announced that the Knowledge Convention Premier Forum will be held on October 14, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The title of the premier forum is ‘Islamic Manuscript the Landmark of Muslim Ummah Civilisation’, with the panel consisting of both local and foreign speakers.
On October 16, the Knowledge Convention Premier Talk 2019 will be held in the presence of Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri PengiranAnak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman.
The premier talk titled, ‘Jawi Malay Manuscript the Intellectual Legacy of All Time’, will be presented by Dean of the Faculty of Arabic Language at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad.
The Knowledge Convention Seminar 2019 will be held on October 13-14, featuring 19 invited speakers. The sub-themes include ‘Making a Culture of Manuscript Research’, ‘Islamic Manuscript in Perpetuating Islamic Knowledge Prominence’, ‘Archipelago Man-uscript Treasures’ and ‘The Management and Implementation of Malay Islamic Manuscript’.
Deputy State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, meanwhile, said that an expo will be held from October 12-16 on the sidelines of the Knowledge Convention 2019.
Some 35 vendors will take part in the expo, which is a joint collaboration between the Syariah Affairs Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs; the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; the Brunei-Muara District Office, Tutong District Office, Belait District Office, and Temburong District Office under the Ministry of Home Affairs; Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) School of Hospitality and Tourism under the Ministry of Education; and the Youth Development Centre under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Members of the public, especially youth, are invited to attend the Knowledge Convention 2019 seminar sessions to share knowledge and information that will explain the role and impact of His Majesty’s leadership in implementing Islamic values in all aspects of the national development agenda.
Invited guests are advised to park their cars in designated parking areas.
Bus services will be provided to guests parking their cars near the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
Invited guests and members of the public are advised to follow the instructions of the enforcement personnel on duty.
