Five years’ jail for armed assault (2019)

BY Fadley Faisal

A local man landed in jail for five years’ after failing to prove his innocence to an armed assault at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas late last year.

Judge Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni found Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman’s version of the turn of events to be reliable and convicted 51-year-old Roslan bin Ibrahim of the charge.

The prosecution’s evidence established that at 3.15pm on December 8, 2018 the defendant went to the park to ask for money from his sister who was setting up her stall at the area.

The defendant’s nephew started defending his mother by telling the defendant to stop asking for money from his mother.

This made the defendant angry and he pulled out a knife from his back and attacked the victim. The victim suffered wounds on his face.

A struggle for the knife then ensued between them and the fight was stopped by the victim’s father and brother who took the knife away.

The defendant then ran away.
