The Syariah High Court in the capital on Monday sentenced a local man, James anak Sugit, to four months’ imprisonment, after finding him guilty of committing Sariqah (theft) under Section 55 (3)(b) of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013.
Facts read out in court stated that the Sungai Liang Police Station received a report on August 23, regarding a gas cylinder that had gone missing from a house in the Belait District. Subsequent police investigations revealed that James had stolen the gas cylinder belonging to his mother and sold it to a retail shop for BND40.
His sentence began on August 23, the date of his remand.
The court also ordered to return the stolen item to the owner. The prosecution was conducted by the Syar’ie Prosecutor from the Syar’ie Prosecution Section under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
