A Bangladeshi man was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to four months’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane, for attacking another person.

Thakor Das, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aeny Zullizam told the court that at 8.30pm on October 17, the defendant had approached the 41-year-old victim at a department store in Mulaut and struck him on the shoulder with a metal rod, causing injuries. The victim managed to escape and immediately lodged a police report.

Police investigations revealed that the defendant had been stalking three men, one of whom he felt had accused him of stealing a bicycle. During their confrontation at the department store, the defendant had demanded to know if the victim was the same person as his accuser. When the victim did not reply, the defendant became enraged and attacked him.
