The International School Brunei of Kuala Belait (ISB KB) on Friday handed over more than 20 boxes of basic necessities to Helping Hands Penan (HHP), a volunteer organisation dedicated to empowering the Penan community in Borneo.
The donations were derived from two weeks of contributions by ISB KB students, with the assistance of its teachers, parents and guardians.
Head of Primary at ISB KB Yynda Thomas said, “The children spent several weeks donating toiletries, shampoo, toothbrushes, flip-flops, toys and many more – all of which are in support of the Penan schoolchildren. The donations for these Penan schoolchildren, who are attending boarding-school at a very young age with very limited resources, will not only help lessen their burdens, but also enable the students of ISB KB to learn more about the Penan schoolchildren’s lives in comparison to theirs.”
HHP also received handmade cards containing messages of support from the students of ISB KB, as a show of solidarity between them and the Penan community.
ISB KB has also invited HHP members to join the musical extravaganza at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) on December 3, to promote the organisation and sell traditional crafts made by the Penan community.
