Spoilt for choice at 5th Higher Education Expo (2020)

The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Higher Education Division, the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and the Scholarship Section held a press conference on the 5th Higher Education Expo 2020 at the MoE on Thursday.

Conducting the press conference were Head of Higher Education Division at the MoE Siti Zuliana binti Haji Abdul Samad, Acting Director of Brunei Technical Education/Chief Executive Officer of IBTE Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli and Head of Scholarship Section Julaihi bin Mohamat as co-chairpersons of the Higher Education Expo 2020.

The expo will be at the BRIDEX Hall 1-2 in Jerudong on February 8-9. The expo will promote multiple pathways to higher education, as well as educational opportunities available both locally and abroad. It is also expected to be a framework for facilitating students who wish to interact directly with the institutions and educational agencies concerned.

Some 83 institutions of higher learning, educational services agencies and other relevant government and private agencies will participate in this year’s expo.

They comprise 13 public and private higher education institutions, 36 international higher education institutions, 23 government and private agencies, eight from local and international education services agencies, and three mission representatives outside the country.

The local higher education institutions are Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Politeknik Brunei (PB) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).

The private higher education institutions are Laksamana College of Business, Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT), Micronet International College (MIC), Kemuda Institute, BICPA – FTMS Accountancy Academy and Mahakarya Institute of the Arts.

These institutions will introduce the programmes on offer, the terms of admission, registration procedures, and any related information.

The MoE will provide the latest and relevant information, such as the HECAS Admissions System (HECAS), Government Scholarships, Education Loan Assistance Scheme (SBPP), the selection and recruitment of teachers, application for the recognition of courses / approvals, careers, and others.

The MoE will be represented by the Higher Education Division, the Scholarship Section, the Secretariat of the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council, the Life Long Learning Centre and the Counselling and Career Unit from Department of Schools.

The expo is open to the public, especially post-secondary and pre-university students, who intend to pursue higher education through the National Technical Education Certificate (NTec), the Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTec), Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree, as well as those who wish to develop their skills or professionalism.

The expo also caters to foreign visitors who wish to pursue their studies at local institutions. Parking facilities and shuttle buses will be available at the Jerudong Park Playground car park.
