Politeknik Brunei’s (PB) Department of Learning and Library organised a Publication Procedures briefing at its One Stop Centre, its main campus at Jalan Ong Sum Ping on Thursday.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah.

PB Director and guest of honour Denis Ho Mun Tai said that several processes are required in publishing a book – taking into account the process of graphics selection right up until the editing process – to ensure the discourse is delivered with cohesion and coherence, quality and is in accordance with the standards set. This is to ensure the work does not conflict with Brunei Darussalam’s religious, cultural and political sensitivities.

The pre-publication process of a book will go through several stages, namely the process of receiving, evaluating, editing, reviewing and verifying authors, proofreading and even signing a publisher-author agreement, it was shared.

“I hope that this briefing will be the starting point for the collaboration between PB and the Book Planning Section of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP),” he said.

Head of the Book Planning Section at DBP Hurul’ Ain binti Rabaha delivered the briefing.

The briefing aimed to introduce the DBP through the Book Planning Section as a platform for publication, offer insight into the Book Planning Section’s publication procedures, and encourage the publication of books from PB, especially its lecturers and students.

The Book Planning Section supports the DBP’s core area of book publishing, and is responsible for receiving manuscripts from authors locally and overseas. The categories of books published are scientific, literary, general and children’s books.
