Officers from the Sungai Liang Police Station of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) recently arrested two local men following a public tip-off on money reportedly stolen from a donation box at the Kampong Sungai Liang Mosque in the Belait District.
The suspects had entered the mosque at midnight on February 16 to fish money out of the donation box with a glue stick attached to a metal hanger.
The witnesses informed the police, resulting in the arrest of Mohammad Khairul Anwar bin Mohd Sharji, 38, and Mohd Fauzilah bin Mohd Sharji, 42.
The pair was produced before the Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Section 380 (A) of the Penal Code Chapter 22, which involves theft of money from a mosque donation box. The suspects were remanded at the Maraburong Prison until March 2, for further mention of the case at the Intermediate Court.
