Brunei has contributed to Japan’s energy security for decades, with shipments of Liquefied Natural Gas for Japan, and last year saw the celebration of the golden jubilee of the establishment of Brunei LNG.
This was highlighted by the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Eiji Yamamoto in his welcoming speech during the 60th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan Reception at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong last night.
Guest of honour Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and spouse Datin Paduka Hajah Jahrah binti Haji Mohamad were present.
The ambassador said that the relationship between the two countries is advancing with the launch of the Global Hydrogen Supply Chain Demonstration Project in Brunei, producing and transporting hydrogen to Japan last November.
“Hydrogen is a clean energy source for the next generation. It demonstrates the commitment of Japanese companies to contribute to an environmentally friendly future and also to the diversification of the Bruneian economy,” said the ambassador.
The event saw the ambassador and spouse Yoshiko Yamamoto presenting the Minister of Home Affairs and spouse with tokens of appreciation during the event.
Further enlivening the event was a performance by members of the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association-Universiti Brunei Darussalam (BJFA-UBD).
