Enforcement personnel from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained a local Chinese man aged 36 at Sungai Tujoh Control Post, Belait District on Monday after allegedly finding a plastic package containing powder as well as crystalised substance believed to be ketamine weighing more than 50 grammes with an estimated value of BND2,500 in his car.
According to a statement from NCB on Tuesday, the case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27 for importation and exportation of controlled drugs that carries a minimum penalty of 30 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane as well as Section 6(b) of MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of BND20,000 or both.
NCB reminded the public that the involvement in any form of drug activities carries capital punishment under MDA, Chapter 27.
NCB expressed gratitude to those who cooperated and support the NCB in eradicating drug activities in the country.
