His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, left for Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Thursday to attend the wedding reception of the son of Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohammad Shafie bin Haji Apdal, and spouse, Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Shuryani binti Datuk Haji Shuaib.

Accompanying Their Majesties were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara.

Their Majesties were greeted on arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport by the Chief Minister of Sabah and spouse, and Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry of Sabah as Minister-in-Attendance Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau and spouse, Datin Seri Panglima Dr Jaina Sintian.

In the evening, Their Majesties attended the wedding reception for Mohd Shahmi bin Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohammad Shafie and Nurtasha Jayos binti Ahmad Johar at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu.

Upon arrival, Their Majesties were greeted by the Chief Minister of Sabah and spouse. Their Majesties were then introduced to the bride and groom, whose marriage was solemnised at Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya last Sunday.

The wedding reception was enlivened with the Merenjis ceremony for the newlyweds followed by a banquet.

His Majesty the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah; Their Royal Highnesses the Raja of Perlis and the Raja Perempuan of Perlis; Yang Di-Pertua Negeri and respective spouses; and Menteri-menteri Besar were among the guests.

The presence of Their Majesties at this ceremony reflects the warmth and closeness of the special ties that have long existed between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia in general, and Sabah in particular.
