My Favoureat Kopitiam (MFK) is organising ‘The Ambuyat Experience’ for customers, in support of the annual Brunei Gastronomy Week – an event that celebrates the Sultanate’s cuisines, from February 23- March 8.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah attended the launch of the promotion.

For the promotion, which will be made available to the public soon, MFK is giving the popular traditional Brunei cuisine a complete makeover, offering a multi-sensory feel and experience.

In a nutshell, ‘The Ambuyat Experience’ will be an audio-visual experience, offering a unique approach never attempted before in Brunei Darussalam, an MFK official said.

MFK has reinterpreted this popular traditional Brunei fare, with the aim of stoking local passion for the humble ambuyat.

“We understand that many diners appreciate a quality Ambuyat lunch/dinner in a nice, cosy and pleasant environment – complete with appropriate soothing music and table service,” said MFK Restaurant Supervisor Hafizah binti Duraman.

This motivated MFK to embark on the challenging project – to transform this humble traditional Brunei fare into a 21st Century gastronomic culinary experience.

“MFK’s creative chefs and service staff hope that the careful blending of unique sights, sounds, tastes and aromas that are specifically orchestrated for the meal (which take an hour on average), will delight adventurous local foodies and tourists seeking a uniquely ‘different’ experience. This is ambuyat pushed to the very edges of the proverbial perimeters,” she said.

Hafizah explained that there are no two ways around this, and it really has to be experienced to be properly understood.

“For example, where else can you experience having the names of each diner be projected onto the table cloth, with a video explaining how Ambulong becomes ambuyat played right on the table-top in front of each diner? This is truly ambuyat at another level,” she said.

The event at MFK is part of Sparks Co Sdn Bhd’s 36th National Day Festival, which ran from February 22 until on Tuesday, in conjunction with the 36th National Day celebration. Sparks Co held other activities including a photography competition, patriotic song competition and flea market at the same premise, on the sidelines.

Anak Pribumi won the hearts of the judges in the patriotic song competition, followed by Permata Permai and Astaka Darussalam in second and third spots.

Meanwhile, Ari Kustiawan took first place in the in the photography competition, followed by Pengiran Haji Sulaiman bin Pengiran Haji Salleh and Amalina binti Abdul Khalid.
