Contract farming course aims to produce youth entrepreneurs (2020)

A group of youth who have the potential to engage in agriculture using high technology started their four day course with a briefing at Rimba Horticulture Centre on Tuesday.

They were briefed on agriculture as a profitable business and how to increase output.

They were also presented with the vision and mission of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood as well as the national target in vegetables and crop production, livestock farming, and paddy production to achieve sustainability.

The course includes talks on investment opportunities, cashflow for agriculture business using technology, opportunities to penetrate local and export markets, visits to farms, and application process for agricultural sites.

At the end of the programme, interested participants need to create a business model on agricultural products, and will be offered contracts to conduct the business by selected companies.

It is hoped to produce entrepreneurs who are committed, progressive and productive towards playing a role in enhancing the gross domestic product (GDP) of the nation in agriculture.
