Brunei Darussalam reported its first COVID-19 fatality on Saturday morning. This was announced by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference on Saturday.
The local man aged 64 is Case 25 and was receiving treatment after he tested positive on March 12. He returned to the country from Kuala Lumpur and Cambodia on March 4, the Minister of Health said.
The man passed away at the National Isolation Centre on Friday at 8.20pm. He had symptoms of the infection on March 8 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on March 16.
The minister added, “With respect to the family, we maintain the victim’s confidentiality. The ministry will not share personal details and we urge the public to not share his details as well.”
The minister, who was visibly moved, paused several times during the announcement at the press conference.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham conveyed the condolences of the Ministry of Health and the whole nation to the deceased’s family.
