A six-year-old Murut boy was believed to have drowned while swimming in a river.
The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) received the distress call to search for the boy who drowned in Sungai Amo, Jalan Amo ‘A’, in the Temburong District on Wednesday.
Two fire trucks from the Rataie Fire Station were dispatched from the Operation ‘G’ Branch and the Diving Unit Team from the Operation ‘C’ Branch were deployed.
Firefighters searched for the victim at the riverbanks. The victim was later found by the public within 30 metres from the place he disappeared and was later handed over to the police.
The victim was taken to the Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Hospital.
The FRD advised the public to exercise awareness and caution when undertaking any activities, especially river or beach swimming, make sure not to swim if the weather is unstable and to be aware of the weather and tides of the river or beach, as well as to wear a life jacket and install safety ropes while saving a victim.
