The Ministry of Health (MoH) recently issued an advisory on the harmful effects of bacteria disinfectant tunnels and other similar devices, following a health alert from the ECRI and the World Health Organization (WHO).
In its statement, the ministry said, “Members of the public, particularly business premises, should not use bacteria disinfectant tunnels, disinfectant chambers, disinfectant cabinets or any other modality involving the spraying of disinfectants on people who are not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).”
It added, “Disinfection by spraying can cause temporary irritation and damage to the skin, eyes and respiratory system by absorption through the skin, eyes and lungs.
“The possible negative effects of exposure to the chemicals include dizziness and vomiting, while other temporary or permanent health effects are subject to the chemicals used in the spray.
“Anyone experiencing these symptoms or feeling unwell after using the device is advised to consult a doctor immediately.”
