Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin on Monday visited the Apak-Apak Longhouse in Kampong Bang Taong, which was damaged by heavy winds on July 30.

The visit allowed for the assessment of the structural damage to the longhouse, which lost its roof and rafters. A total of 130 occupants from 22 residences are affected.

Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin led government agency officials in providing temporary relief measures that included the installation of a waterproof canvas the day after.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar said the damages could be mitigated with the use of waterproof canvas, which was installed by the Belait District Office, National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) and Sungai Liang Fire Station.

“At this moment, it is important to give residents a roof above their heads. This is to ensure the rooms the families are living in are not affected by wind and rain. This is a temporary measure,” he said.
