Boosting local employment and businesses, two local companies DKH General Contractor and Fath-Briz Sdn Bhd were awarded with i-Usahawan contracts by the Department of Electrical Services (DES), Ministry of Energy following a contract signing ceremony at DES’ Headquarters on Thursday.
The signing brings the number of i-Usahawan contracts awarded by DES to three.
DES Acting Director Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah signed on behalf of DES while DKH General Contractor was represented by owner Dayangku Siti Hafizah binti Pengirang Anak Rosledzana. DKH General Contractor will provide housekeeping services to DES Pusar Ulak, Sengkurong and Bunut branch for three years. This contract provides employment for five local cleaners.
The second contract was awarded to Fath-Briz Sdn Bhd for the provision of grass cutting services and building maintenance at Tenaga Suria Brunei (TSB) for four years. Fath-Briz Sdn Bhd was represented by owner and Managing Director Mohammad Fadly bin Jais. The contract provides employment for six local cleaners and grass cutters.
DKH General Contractor and Fath-Briz Sdn Bhd attended SME trainings prior to participating in the tenders. The trainings include Financial Practice for MSME and Financial Education for Entrepreneurs by DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) as well as a course on Tender Introduction by DES.
Mohammad Fadly said, “Alhamdulillah, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government trusted our company by awarding the i-Usahawan contract. It was an opportunity for a local company like ours to provide employment for locals.

“Through the i-Usahawan Programme, it can increase opportunities for local businesses and provide employment for Bruneians. Currently we have five staff members and are looking to add another.”
DKH General Contractor Project Director and Advisor Pengiran Anak Rosledzana bin Pengiran Muda Umar Ali said, “We are very happy to be awarded with the i-Usahawan Contract and would like to convey our heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Energy, especially DES for giving us the opportunity to move forward. We are working with JobCentre Brunei and Kampong Panchor Mengkubau Village Consultative Council to look for local employees. We provide the much needed in-house training.”
Since its inception on August 1, 2018 in conjunction with the 13th National Youth Day celebration, the i-Usahawan Programme identified 42 contracts by government, government-linked companies (GLCs) and statutory bodies, where 16 of the contracts were awarded to provide business opportunities to aspiring local youth entrepreneurs to competitively participate in tenders for low risk (ring-fenced) contracts, the entrepreneurs can develop and enhance their entrepreneurial skills through the continuous mentorship support from the contract holder throughout the contract execution.
The programme is in line with the ministry’s aspiration to support the nation’s efforts in enhancing the local economy and in developing local capability, specifically within the Energy Sector in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035.
