A contract worker died after he was hit by a car on the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge on August 8 night.
The incident occurred in the forest area of Labu, Temburong District, about 1.7km from the Labu roundabout, when a vehicle heading towards Kota Batu in the Brunei-Muara District hit a contract worker carrying out repairs on the bridge’s road surface, said a statement by The Brunei Bridge Authority under the Ministry of Development.
The victim was rushed to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is conducting an investigation. “Users of Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge are reminded to be on the alert for maintenance work being carried out, whether during the daytime or at night,” said the statement.
“The Brunei Bridge Authority will also reinforce the Standard Operating Procedures for the implementation of bridge work, along with safeguard measures for further ensuring safe conditions along the driving routes.”
