A nationwide Population and Housing Census will be conducted next year. For the public’s convenience, they can assess the Population and Housing Census 2021 (BPP2021) online portal, ‘e-Census system’, to register and fill in their information within the census period.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah launched the new system during the World Statistics Day (WSD) 2020 celebration on Tuesday.

The celebration themed ‘Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust’ was held at the theatre hall of the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), organised by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES).

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, guests and officials from the ministry were present.

The e-Census system can be accessed through www.brucensus.gov.bn. The portal will also contain information about BPP2021 and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

BPP 2021 is the sixth census of its kind in Brunei Darussalam. It will cover all residents – Brunei citizens, permanent residents and temporary residents. Data collected will provide comprehensive information on the population as well as housing and amenities.

The census will be implemented in three stages. The first stage is the houselisting by villages from January 20, 2021 to February 21, 2021. The second stage is the e-Census system implementation from April 20, 2021 to June 21, 2021. The third stage is the face-to-face interview from July 20, 2021 to August 2, 2021.

Director General of Economic Planning and Statistics Hajah Mariah binti Haji Yahya said October 20 had been declared World Statistics Day by the United Nations (UN) and is celebrated every five years.

The WSD celebration continued with a video presentation on BPP2021 and an exhibition by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

The public is welcome to visit the exhibition at the main lobby area of MoFE until tomorrow from 8am to noon and 2-4pm.
