The Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered a mental assessment on a local man charged for committing mischief.

DPP Ahmad Firdaus Mohammad’s charge against Cheong Foo Keong, 51, alleges him of having thrown a rock at a car window and causing damage to it at 10.35am on November 25 along Jalan Kianggeh.

The prosecution has reason to doubt the mental fitness of the defendant and applied for the assessment.

Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim, on agreeing with the prosecution, ordered for the Mental Health Unit to assess the defendant while adjourning the case for further mention on December 7.

The unemployed man was detained by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) for damaging property around the vicinity of Bandar Seri Begawan after a report was lodged.

A man who parked his car near the Pavo Point building on November 14 morning was informed by his friend that the car door was damaged.

Investigations revealed that an unknown individual caused damage to the car by kicking and slamming it with a drain cover.

The incident went viral on social media and the police detained the suspect at Tamu Kianggeh. On November 25, the police received another report regarding several cars that had been damaged in Tamu Kianggeh which went viral. The police then detained the man on November 28.
