Police arrest armed robbery suspect (2020)

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) apprehended a man for alleged involvement in an armed robbery of a convenience shop in Jalan Pasir Berakas, Brunei-Muara District.

The incident took place on November 29 morning where a cashier of a convenience shop was the victim, according to Acting Head of Major Crimes Investigation, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Acting Senior Superintendent Haji Mohamad Khairul Amilin bin Haji Idris.

The victim – a foreigner – was threatened by the alleged robber to hand over proceeds of the shop but refused to comply. A scuffle ensued and the victim was injured while the suspect escaped.

The Berakas Police Station received a report and an investigation was carried out. The Housebreaking and Car Theft Unit assisted by Special Investigation Unit of CID took over the investigation and arrested the suspect following a public tip-off.

The suspect is a local man aged 30 and the case is being investigated. The RBPF found a number of evidence related to the case – a knife, vehicle and clothing – that the suspect was believed to have used in the incident.

The suspect, if found guilty, will be imprisoned for a period of no more than 30 years and whipping of no less than 12 strokes.

The RBPF conveyed its gratitude for public cooperation in tracking the whereabouts of the suspect.
