Some 300 participants took part in the Brunei Open Masters Athletics Championship 2019 at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last weekend.

The championship, which was held over two days, was launched by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said during the opening ceremony last Sunday.

Brunei Government’s support for Wushu development receives praise (2019)

The Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA) on Sunday expressed its appreciation to the Government of Brunei Darussalam in supporting the development of Wushu in Asia and hosting 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championship.

The President of Wushu Federation of Asia Fok Chun Wan, on behalf of the association, highlighted its gratitude in the opening remark during the 48th Wushu Federation of Asia Executive Committee Meeting held at the Conference room of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Five local traditional archers are taking part in the Kota Kinabalu Traditional Archery Competition 2019 (PMTKK) at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah from August 17 to today.

The five local archers are Haji Abdul Hafiz bin Abdullah, Mohd Rosman bin Roslin, Muhammad Naabil bin Wahid, Muhd Noorizan bin Abdullah Manggai, Muhd Iqmal Ariffin bin Haji Masharun from the Seri Begawan Archery Club. The field also included archers from Sabah, Sarawak and Indonesia.

Haziq to take part in world junior meet in Budapest (2019)

Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) is sending national junior swimmer Haziq bin Samil and coach Harjimmey Zainal to participate in the upcoming 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships 2019. The world junior meet will be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 20 – 25.

Haziq will be competing in the 100m backstroke on August 20 and 200m Individual Medley (IM) on August 21.

Brunei’s BJJ exponents shine in KK meet (2019)

Brunei Darussalam’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) contingent impressed in the Kota Kinabalu International BJJ & Nogi Championship 2019 after collecting a haul of nine gold, six silver and six bronze medals at the Likas Sports Complex, Sabah recently.

The annual tournament was part of the Sabah Fitness Festival, and has seen regular participation from Brunei athletes in past years, generally with good results.
