BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE national petanque team hope to be competing at this year’s Asian Beach Games in Vietnam in September.

The sultanate was represented by Mohd Abdillah Tamin, Masli Hj Mohd Said, Hj Mat Rasil Hj Ahmad and Hj Karim Hj Ahmad at the previous edition of the Games in Phuket, Thailand two years ago, where competing in the men’s triple event, the team failed to make it out of the group stage after only winning one of their three matches.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - HER Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah led Ivy League to win the 2016 SportsBru Open Female Netball Tournament yesterday.

Held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas, Ivy League defeated the Brunei Netball Association (BNA) League 2015 champions Revival 13-9 in the final.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - FIDE Master (FM) Mohd Aliuddin Hj Azahari and Eko Handoko were the biggest winners of the National Day Chess Festival organised in conjunction with the 32nd National Day celebration yesterday.

FM Mohd Aliuddin emerged champion of the Rapid event going unbeaten with seven wins and two draws for eight points while Eko clinched the Blitz event with six points to his name at the Times Square Shopping Centre.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - CHIKARA softball team got their 16th ASEAN Open Women’s Softball Tournament campaign off to a good start after a convincing 9-0 win against OCBC NISP in Bandung, Indonesia yesterday.

"It's a good start to the tournament because we were well prepared coming here," said Chikara's head coach Manuel Bacariciz in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday. "There are five games to advance to the second round which we have to be ready, focus and work hard at each game,".

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI Darussalam Hockey Association (BDHA) yesterday held a meeting to appoint head coach and managers for the national team at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

National hockey coach Shaiful Azli Abd Rahman will continue to guide the national hockey team after he signed a new contract yesterday, rewarding the progress that has been made by him since his appointment in June 2014.
