National athletics team leave for M’sia Open

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI have sent five of their fastest sprinters to compete at the 93rd Malaysia Open Athletics Championship 2016.

2016 Rio Olympian and national 100m record holder Md Fakhri Ismail, Md Faaizul Abdullah, Md Asy Syaf’ie Md Bohari and Abd Rahim Abdullah will run in the 100m while Md Nur Firdaus Ar-Rasyid Hj Idris will contest the 200m event at the Sept 30 – Oct 2 competition to be held at the Sports Science Stadium of Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI’S campaign at the 5th Asian Beach Games in Vietnam came to a close after the national sepak takraw team fell to a 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 15-21) defeat to Indonesia in the men’s regu event yesterday.

The sultanate started Group B on the wrong foot with a 2-0 (13-21, 12-21) loss to Myanmar on Tuesday.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - DPMM FC coach Steve Kean felt they missed a golden chance to better their goal difference in the Singapore League (S-League) after a 5-3 victory over the Young Lions (Singapore national Under-21 football team) on Monday night.

The Brunei side looked set to cruise to an easy win having opened up a four-goal lead just 30 minutes into the match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Sepak takraw team start regu event with loss to Myanmar

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE national sepak takraw team started their 5th Asian Beach Games regu event campaign on the wrong foot with a 2-0 (13-21, 12-21) loss to Myanmar yesterday.

They will look to bounce back with meetings against Nepal and Indonesia today to close out Group B stage play in Da Nang, Vietnam.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - SULTAN Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) College successfully defended their National Interschool Hockey Championship after defeating Tanjong Maya Secondary School 1-0 in the final yesterday.

Mohd Faiz Hapandi’s goal in the ninth minute was enough to help SOAS College lift the title for fifth time winning it every year since 2012.
