FIDE Master Yee finishes sixth at 4th Sabah MRSM International Chess Open

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - FIDE Master Yee Soon Wei (pic) finished sixth at the 4th Sabah MRSM International Chess Open 2016 held in Kota Kinabalu last weekend.

Ranked 12th in the competition, Yee was the only FIDE Master to make it to the top eight of the tournament held at the Mengaris Hall, while the others were International Masters and higher.

BELAIT - FOUR youth from Belait have been nominated to represent Brunei’s 10-pin bowling team at the upcoming 18th Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak.

Sisters Nur Afiqah, Nur Asyiqin and Nur Aqilah Noor Zain have been nominated alongside Safwan Anwar, said Brunei’s Sports School 10-pin bowling coach Ahmad Athery Hj Abd Samad last weekend.

Takaful Brunei Futsal Super League kicks off

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - KOTA Junior will kick-off their Takaful Brunei Futsal Super League title defence with a Sumbangsih Cup match against Bio Futsal Team tonight.

The game at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas also serves as an opener for the new season. The match starts at 8pm.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - NATIONAL jumping coach Joseph Kameni praised his athletes’ efforts at the 11th Southeast Asian (SEA) Youth Athletics Championships 2016 in Thailand last weekend after they improved their personal bests.

National jumpers Muhd Wafiq Kifli and Muhd Nurfirdaus Abdullah Muhd Faizal participated in the long jump event and both set new records at the two-day annual event.

Sairol out for the season

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - DPMM FC have been dealt a heavy blow as left-back Sairol Hj Sahari is set to miss the rest of the Singapore League (S-League) season after rupturing his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The 33-year-old picked up the injury during a training session at the Jerudong Mini Stadium on Monday.
