BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI won its first-ever gold medal in the women’s fours category when they beat Malaysia 15-14 at the 11th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships yesterday.

The team of Hjh Amalia Hj Matali, Nur Uzma Khadijah Ibrahim, Suhana Hj Md Daud and Hjh Ajijah Muntol edged Malaysia 15-14 at the Lawn Bowls Arena of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas – where Brunei also won silver.

Simunic to get help from M’sian legends

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - SABAH head coach Vjeran Simunic will be getting help from two Malaysian football legends for this year’s Malaysia Premier League season.

The former DPMM FC head coach, who took over at Sabah early December, will have James Wong and his former strike partner Hassan Sani as assistant managers of the state team, according to a report on Malaysian daily The Star on Tuesday.

Wong is best remembered for putting Malaysia through to the 1980 Moscow Olympics after scoring the all-important winner over South Korea (2-1) at the Merdeka Stadium.

Brunei through to semis at 11th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI progressed into the semi-finals of the men’s pairs and triples category at the 11th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships after beating Sri Lanka 28-6 and 32-3 respectively yesterday.

The duo of the senior national lawn bowlers Hj Naim Brahim and Mohd Israt Amiruddin Hj Abdul Ghani remained unbeaten in the men’s pairs category after five games and will face either China or Hong Kong in today’s semi-final at the Lawn Bowls Arena of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas at 3pm.

Ong reigns supreme

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - ONG Chee Mang won the DD2 Master category at the Rotax Max Invitation Race 2016 at the Sepang International Kart Circuit in Malaysia on Sunday.

Representing the sultanate at the two-day international event, Ong was crowned overall champion after he finished the 20-lap race with an official time of 17:01.381mins ahead of Johnny Shang from Singapore in second with 17.02.970mins.
