BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - HIS Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah has called on the country’s three athletes competing at the Rio Olympics to uphold the country’s name at the multi-sport extravaganza.

Sprinters Md Fakhri Ismail and Maizurah Abd Rahim will be joined by shuttler Jaspar Yu Woon Chai as they contest in the biggest tournament of their lives at the Aug 5-21 Olympics.

Gunners leave for tournament in Australia

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - BRUNEI Gunners Softball team will be competing at the 2016 Softball Queensland Masters Tournament in Brisbane, Australia on Friday.

A total of 115 teams will be competing at the three-day tournament, and Brunei Gunners will be competing in the tournament’s top division alongside Brisbane Giants, Brothers, Bruins, PK Pride, Scorpions and Stags 1.

Brunei start Asian Netball Championships with win against Japan

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE national netball team got off to a strong start at the 10th Asian Netball Championships in Thailand with a 51-20 win over Japan in Group B yesterday.

The Royal Bees opened up a 10-4 lead after the first period before extending the cushion to 25-11 at halftime at the Thailand National Stadium in Bangkok.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - DPMM FC coach Steve Kean was disappointed to let the Singapore League Cup title slip away after falling 2-0 to Albirex Niigata (S) FC in the final on Saturday night.

Rui Kumada had given the Japanese outfits the lead late in the first half — the only goal that DPMM FC conceded in open play in the competition — and Kean felt that a good save by the Nosuke Nozawa on Adi Said’s effort in the 68th minute was the turning point of the game.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE duo of Billy Wong and Mohd Yusree Hj Md Yusainey clinched the second leg of the BDTA (Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association) Open Doubles after defeating the father and son pairing of Ravi Kumar Patehmuthu and Arun Isak Ravi Kumar 7-6(0), 6-3 in the final on Friday.
