COVID-19 Brunei: Sports facilities restrictions ease on July 6 (2020)

The de-escalation plan will be upgraded to Phase 3 on July 6 for gym and fitness centres, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and golf courses following advice from the Ministry of Health (MoH).

This was announced by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin during a press conference at the MoH on Wednesday.

Brunei book slot in next year’s AFC Cup (2020)

Brunei Darussalam have been reserved a slot to make an appearance in the 2021 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup next season, according to The ASEAN Football recently.

The winner of the 2020 Brunei Super League, the country’s top tier of football, will gain entry via the play-off stage alongside domestic league champions from Laos and Timor Leste as well as winners of cup tournaments from Myanmar, Indonesia and Cambodia.

Table tennis enthusiasts in Brunei Darussalam are allowed to play with the sport categorised under single matches as part of the updated guidelines included in the first phase of the de-escalation plan.

Several individuals enjoyed a light session at the Menglait Sports Complex on Sunday in promising signs of heightened activity in sports since the announcement last month.

Local boxing star to begin pre-camp training (2020)

Brunei Darussalam boxing sensation Muhammad ‘Irfan bin Haji Abdul Razak will start his pre-camp training in the country during the early stages of his preparations towards launching a professional boxing career.

The local star, who signed a landmark deal with legendary trainer Jeff Mayweather last month, will then continue the next phase of his journey towards a maiden professional fight with a full training camp in Las Vegas.

Brunei record four appearances in AFC under-19 meet (2020)

Brunei Darussalam’s national youth football team have made four appearances in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship, according to The Asean Football recently.

The young Wasps featured in a major tournament at continental level in 1970, 1972, 1974 and 1975 alongside some of the biggest names in Asia.
