BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE Brunei Netball Association (BNA) is set to welcome all runners in the sultanate with a burst of colours at its fund raising Charity Colour Run for the Royal Bees slated on May 22 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
The Royal Bees (the national netball team) will be competing at the 10th Asian Netball Championship in Bangkok from July 30–Aug 7, and the association is doing their best to raise funds ahead of the annual tournament.National netball coach Thilaka Jinadasa confirmed 25 players after last month’s national team selection trials, and the next trial on May 12 will see the number cut to 15.
During a press conference yesterday, the association’s vice-president Lt Col (Rtd) Wan Hjh Shahlimar Hj Suhaili highlighted the importance of the public and sponsors’ support for the Royal Bee’s international campaign.
“We want the public and our sponsors to know that without their support, there is no team,” said Wan Hjh Shahlimar in her opening remarks at The Stadium Restaurant at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
“The support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) is there, and we are grateful. However, we need a bit more (funds) to reach our target.
“Aside from the Royal Bees’ Asian Netball Championship campaign, the team will also be competing in the Korea Invitational Netball Championship from August 27-31.
“Our players have been training relentlessly, and through this fund raising campaign, we hope they can fly the flag for the country in these tournaments.
“At the same time, we also want the fun run to be as exciting as possible - hence why we have limited it to a maximum distance of 5km in the men and women’s categories,” she added.
The fun run will see a maximum of 1000 entries on a first-come first serve basis.
There will be two routes available; the Fun Run of 2.5km and the 5km routes. Registration fees have been set at $30 and $35 respectively.
Registration forms can be obtained from BNA’s Facebook page or from the Indoor Stadium’s administration office during office hours.
Payment can be made through BNA’s BIBD account; 00-014-01-0009123 or by cash no later than April 24 at the 1st floor Lobby Zone 4, Indoor Stadium in Berakas.
There is no age limit in the Fun Run category while participants have to be at least 12 years old to participate in the 5km category.
Each registered runner is entitled to a Charity Colour Run T-shirt, a pair of exclusive ‘Rainbow’ sunglasses, a race bib as well as a finisher’s medal.
