BELAIT - TWO veteran’s mixed doubles teams from Brunei bagged gold and bronze in the amateur category at the ongoing 45th World Morning Cup and Wu Wen-Ta Memorial Badminton Championship 2016 in Chinese Taipei.

Married duo Abdul Gapar Obey and Nurliana Abdullah took first in the above 60-years-old amateurs while their Bruneian counterparts James Leun Wai Nyap and Kelly Tan Ling Ling placed third in the same category. Abdul Gapar and Nurliana said that they will be taking home the experience of competing with players from different countries as they look to continue to participating in their next veteran tournament in Vancouver later this year.

“We feel privileged and inspired to meet all the athletes. We met the eldest player, who is 85 years old, and still healthy and fit to compete. It was great to take part, and promote a healthy lifestyle regardless of age,” said the couple yesterday.

The veterans championship, hosted by the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association and the Taiwan Senior Badminton Association, is running until April 20.

Aside from the amateur event, there is also the open event and the honour guest event.

Over 1,800 from 15 countries are competing.
