BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - DARREN Chai and Stephanie Liew of Hybrid Movement successfully defended their titles in the men’s and women’s open categories at the 2nd Borneo Pangazou Functional Athletics Tournament in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
Chai defeated nine other athletes to claim the men’s open category, which consisted of four total events involving functional movements over two days, at the Oceanus Waterfront Mall. Liew topped the women’s open category beating two other athletes.
Rachael Lee, who teamed up with three athletes from CrossFit Kinabalu under the banner of Hysterical Weasels, also managed to finish on the podium after placing third in the team category.
Chai, who is the founder and head trainer of Hybrid Movement, was pleased with the outing.
“I’m really satisfied with the outcome of the competition because we were able to defend our Borneo Pangazou titles,” said Chai in a press statement. “I’m proud of my fellow trainers and Bruneians; Stephanie who achieved first position for women’s open category and Rachael’s team that got third position.
“The events were physically and mentally challenging as it incorporated tough movements with long duration. Also, we all had to deal with the heat and rain as all events were conducted outdoors,” he added.
“Overall, it was a great experience and the tournament was well organised. I hope to continue the training with my fellow athletes at Hybrid Movement Functional Training Centre for more upcoming competitions,” concluded Chai.
